Fight For This Love - The Single Off Her Debut Album

Music & Society - How Music industry Affects
Music Makers and Users

Cheryl Cole, the recently departed member of 'Girls Aloud' has decided to to continue her career as a solo performer. After months of planning, the launch of her new career is about to take place. To try to ensure a successful start Cheryl has stopped at nothing to make this debut album as big as possible. She has called in help for her new solo image to separate herself from her talent judging show, 'X Factor'. This is shown by the picture to the left, and the one below.

"Raunch chic: Mrs Cole goes for the sex factor in a lace leotard and leather leggings in the makeover for her new video" - www.dailymail.co.uk 9/11/09

"Hot chic: The 2
6-year-old is experimenting with studs and spikes for a 'fun, rocky' look after working with a stylist" - www.dailymail.co.uk 9/11/09

Her new style show that she is trying to make the statement, she can do it by herself, that she is stylish yet accessible and also sexy. Cheryl Cole is classic pop, her new single ' fight for this love' is full of pop lyrics along with the first class pop/dance beat and Rhythmic phrasing.

Cheryl's target audience is clearly the teen aged girls, with possibly
some Middle aged woman and teen aged boys liking it. Cheryl's whole persona is very encouraging to young girls as it gives off the message you can achieve what you want. She also oozes sexiness, but the way she portrays it has been very cleverly marketed so that she had not come across as 'a Gordie slapper'.

As i said at the beginning Cheryl has pulled out all the stops for the release of this single. she has appeared on radio 1 on the Chris Moyles show to promote it. Here is the interviews

Now as we know Cheryl is a judge on the X Factor, this giving her a massive opportunity to preview her single to the British public. A week before she released her single she performed it live on the show. This had a massive positive effect on her single. Not only had she showcased it to millions but also had it approved by Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges. This is all proven to work well as the week it was released it rose to top 1p in the UK top 40. the following week it knocked Alexandra Burke, former X Factor winner off the top spot, securing number 1. The Link below shows Cheryl performing on the X Factor. In this video all it does is promote her success and put the audience/ viewer in a positive mood before she performs. This is a clever Marketing Scheme as if people are in a open positive mood when listening they are more likely to enjoy the song and ultimately buy it.

The Album '3 words' and single are both available on download from places such as iTunes, it has been shipped out to major music stores like HMV and will also be in most Supermarkets. The promotion and advertisement for this is all over the radio and and TV. By having these adverts on TC and Radio Cheryl is reaching her target audience and pushing them to by it. Her adverts play on radio stations like Viking, Radio 1 and Galaxy. Most of these at peak times when most people are listening. By doing this she optimizes her chance of receiving the most down loads and single/album sales. The full marketing plan of Cheryl's single release, performing it on X Factor and that corresponding with the single been released the next day, had ultimately lead to the success so far.
